X-Ray Assessment

At Schäfer Chiropractic and Associates, we have modern digital X-ray imaging facilities available onsite to assist with accurate assessment and safe, evidence-informed care.

Dr Schafer has completed extensive training in the interpretation and assessment of X-rays and regularly reviews spinal X-rays as part of her clinical practice. When clinically appropriate, X-ray imaging can provide valuable information that cannot always be obtained from a physical examination alone.

Why do chiropractors use X-rays?

X-rays allow us to assess the bony structures of the spine and can provide additional information about:

  • Spinal and joint alignment
  • Changes associated with wear and degeneration
  • Previous or suspected fractures
  • Structural changes that may influence treatment decisions
  • Other findings that may require further investigation or referral

X-rays are not required for every patient. Dr Schafer will first complete a thorough history and physical examination and will recommend imaging only when there is a clinical reason for it. This helps ensure that each patient receives appropriate care while avoiding unnecessary radiation exposure.

How can further investigation help your care?

Having digital X-ray imaging available onsite means that, when imaging is clinically indicated, it can be performed conveniently as part of your assessment.

The information obtained from the images can help Dr Schafer:

Understand your presentation
X-rays can provide additional information about the underlying bony structures and help put your symptoms and examination findings into context.

Plan appropriate care
Imaging findings can contribute to clinical decision-making and help determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate, whether modifications to treatment are required, or whether further investigation or referral is recommended.

Identify important findings
Certain structural abnormalities, injuries or degenerative changes may be visible on X-ray and can influence the management of your condition.

Monitor selected conditions when appropriate
In some circumstances, follow-up imaging may be clinically indicated to assess a change over time. Repeat X-rays are not routinely performed simply to monitor progress.

Our commitment to safety

Your safety is our priority. We follow the professional, ethical and radiation-safety requirements applicable to our practice in South Africa following guidelines led out by AHPCSA and SAHPRA.
